Ixtapa - The Costa Grande, the “Big Coast”, of the state
of Guerrero angles 200 miles southeast from the Río
Balsas to Acapulco. Before the highway came in the 1960's,
this was a land of corn, coconuts, fish, and fruit.
During the 1970s, planners decided to create
the best of all possible worlds by building Ixtapa,
a luxurious resort on a pearly beach five miles away. Now,
Ixtapa -Zihuatanejo's
clear, rich waters, forested eco-sanctuaries, pearly little
beaches, pristine offshore islets, good food, comfortable
hotels, and friendly local folks offer visitors the ingredients
for memorable stays any time of the year.
Zihuatanejo
- an old fishing village, has cobblestone streets with restaurants,
shopping, and art galleries. The area's three beaches invite
all water sports. In addition, the waters off Zihuatanejo
are famed for their abundance of game fish- including sailfish,
marlin and rooster fish.
